Ristorante Tirreno
A lovely Italian café with excellent food and one of our favourite restaurants, just east of the Bondgate Tower. No bookings are taken: turn up for an available table or join the waiting list and enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the pub next door. Open from midday, with last meal orders at 9pm; currently closed on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Di Sopra Ristorante
An Italian restaurant on the first floor, just to the left as you pass through the Bondgate Tower. Opened in 2012 and has received good recent reviews. Open seven days a week, midday–10.30pm. Telephone to book a table.

A contemporary restaurant and steakhouse inside one of Alnwick’s old pubs, just past the Market Place. Comfortable and very friendly, with delicious food. The menu is mainly meat-focused, but vegetarian dishes can be prepared on request.

One of our favourite choices for fish and chips in Northumberland, with takeaway and café service. There is seating upstairs, and no booking is required.

A contemporary Turkish restaurant on two floors with a nice family atmosphere and consistently good reviews. Find it opposite Boots, on the lane linking Bondgate Within with the Market Place. Open daily, midday–10pm, closing at 9pm on Sundays.

The Station Buffet at Barter Books
Inside the excellent antiquarian bookshop, the Station Buffet is a lovely choice for breakfast, a snack, light lunch or an early evening meal. The food is consistently good. Browse the books and settle beside a roaring coal fire in the old station waiting rooms — a real treat!
